Patination Oil is an easy to use, protective coating for exposed lead surfaces. It protects against formation of white carbonate staining on lead sheeting, which can cause discolouration on surrounding brickwork, stonework or rooftiles. It is a blend of polymeric resins, oils and solvent that combine to remove oxide staining and give an attractive metallic appearance, non yellowing high performance protective lacquer to the lead surface.

Best applied at the end of each working day, and before the lead gets wet

Apply before any expected rainfall
Ensure the lead surface is clean, fully dry and free of any surface contaminants and general construction dust. Shake the can well before use to ensure the oil is thoroughly mixed and apply to a soft, lint free absorbent cloth. Apply straight lines of a thin and even coat to the lead surface working from top to bottom in a horizontal manner. Do not apply in a circular motion as this may leave impression marks on the lead
Before clipping apply to the leading edge and underside of the sheet to a minimum of 50mm from the edge.
Only one coat is generally required, however a second coating should be applied on completion of the project if the lead sheeting is subject to traffic or any form of surface abrasion during construction that potentially can disrupt the film and expose the lead.
Avoid contact with pvc, polycarbonate or bituminous surfaces with patination oil.

1 litre of Patination Oil is sufficient to cover 60m2 of lead sheeting.

Supplied in 0.5 &1.0 litre ready to use containers. Keep the container closed when not in use. Store in a cool dry conditions between 5 and 25°C.

Shelf Life is 12 months from date of manufacture

General Safety

Patination Oil is based in white spirit and is therefore flammable. Patination Oil should therefore be applied in a well ventilated area and away from sources of ignition, such as smoking or naked flames. Protective gloves and eyewear should be worn during application.
